Hendersonville, North Carolina
Age 53
HENDERSONVILLE-Gregory Steven Wright, 53, lost his fight against all the demons created by an accidental fall from a tree when he was 15 years old that left him paralyzed from the waist down.
Greg completed Hendersonville High School in 1979 through the help of all his friends that carried him and his wheel chair up and down the stairs at HHS. While he had the opportunity to transfer to a single story school, but his love for his Bearcats and Big Red would not allow him to leave his Alma Mater
Gregory went on to achieve a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from UNCA. Although not a simple process he strived every day to make classes and meet the demands. No credits were given for the time and effort it took for Greg to do simple tasks like putting on his pants or even socks.
Throughout the years, he elevated himself through management positions in several banking facilities including First Federal, First Citizen and Downey Savings in California. Gregory served as Manager of Systems Engineering with Downey Savings when he retired.
After working in Raleigh, NC and Irvine, California, in 2010 he returned home to Hendersonville providing comfort and support to his father during his Dad's final years.
Greg is survived by his two brothers, Jerald Wright, Jr. and wife Barbara, Phillip Wright and wife Laura. He was the proud uncle of four nephews, Kevin, David, Andrew, and Michael and two grandnephews Corey, and Jared, and four Grandnieces Miranda, Alex, Emma, and Sophia. Greg is also survived by two uncles Sherald and Elbert Wright and a loving cousin Janette "Mama" Whitmire.
