Draz, Griswold "Gooz" Griswold Draz, known to all by his nickname Gooz, died suddenly from as-yet unknown causes, on Thursday, November 5th, 2015, while working at his home in Wellfleet. Gooz was born on October 14th, 1955 in Bethlehem PA to the late Zell and Courtney Draz. His family moved often during his childhood but always summered at Corn Hill in Truro, and in 1983 Gooz settled in Wellfleet, purchasing a home he renovated and turned into a laboratory of alternative energy production. He graduated from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and was an accomplished large-format photographer. From 1986 to 1992, he owned Zoe Gallery in Boston where he exhibited many local emerging artists. In June 1994, he married Heather MacDonald, a painter, and they had two children, Emmett and Julian, all of Wellfleet. They survive him, as does his brother Christian of Boston and Truro. He served on the Wellfleet planning board and was instrumental in changing town zoning law so as to limit the size of homes constructed within the Cape Cod National Seashore. Gooz was a loving husband, a devoted father, a generous friend, and a passionate defender of the natural world he loved so deeply. A Memorial Service is planned at Preservation Hall, 335 Main St., Wellfleet at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 21, 2015

Dear Heather, I just learned of Gooz's untimely death and am so terribly sorry. Of course death would have to come with such ferocious speed and surprise to outwit and outsmart him. Gooz was a force of nature and helped fill my teenage and early adult summers with imagination, fun and delight. Knowing him was an honor and a joy. Please accept my deepest condolences.

My Dear "Heatha", Emmett and Julian,
I was so sad and shocked to hear about Gooz. It is far too soon for us to start losing our spouses and each other. Heather, I know that Gooz' spirit made you a stronger person than you appear and I am grateful that you have your parents nearby and the boys at your side.
I appreciated Gooz's friendship because he inspired me to keep living life on my own terms ( even if HE didn't always understand my choices!) and to keep reading and thinking hard about the world around me. I miss just knowing that he is out there- in this crazy world.
I am sending my love and hoping you will plant some wonderful crazy thing in your beautiful yard to make you smile when you think about Gooz. xo

Gooz, your support and help for me (Cathy) during one of the most difficult periods of my life helped me at such a profound level. Through your and Heather's help I have been able to create the life I had always hoped and dreamed about creating. You have been family to me.
