Dickenson, Grover C., 88, of the Crackers Neck Community of Big Stone Gap, VA, passed away on Thursday (December 29, 2011) at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Big Stone Gap. He was a lifelong resident of the Crackers Neck Community. Grover was a well respected carpenter in the area. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Verna Dickenson; two sons, Billy Dickenson and Donald Dickenson; a grandson, Jordan Dickenson; his parents, Van Buren "Dave" and Rosie (Shupe) Dickenson; and several brothers and sisters. Surviving are two daughters, Flossie Spears, his devoted caregiver, of Big Stone Gap, and Mary Ann Flannary of Kingsport, TN; four sons, Paul (Peggy Dorton) Dickenson, Roger (Marketta) Dickenson, Ronald (Pat) Dickenson, all of Dryden, VA and Terry (Kathy) Dickenson of Big Stone Gap; 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Delph of Centerville, VA and Rose (Bruce) Dickenson of Big Stone Gap; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Johnny Murray, Sr. of Big Stone Gap. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Heritage Hall Healthcare in Big Stone Gap and to Dr. Lawrence Fleenor and staff for their compassionate care. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday at Holding Funeral Home (17 E. 3rd St., N.) in Big Stone Gap. The funeral service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor James Holcomb and Pastor Bill Hughes officiating. Committal services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Barker's Cemetery in the Crackers Neck Community of Big Stone Gap. I am so sorry for your loss, although I have not seen Grover for a lot of years I have thought of him often and just recently listened to him play guitar on an old cassette tape with Paul and Maude (my grandparents). I will always remember him as a good and sweet person,and loving Uncle, god bless and and keep you all,I will remember you always Grover!
