Guadalupe Tijerina Sr.

Mission, TX - Guadalupe Tijerina, Sr., known as Lupe, to family and friends passed away at the age of 86 on February 15th, 2022.

He is survived by his wife Pascuala Tijerina, lovingly known as Cuala, of Mission, TX. Our great lord blessed them with 9 children, Janie Huggins (Bill+) of Nacogdoches, TX; Rosie Menchaca, (Reynaldo) of Mission; Refugia Ramirez (Fred) of Weslaco; Guadalupe Tijerina, Jr., (Sonia) of Edinburg; Belinda Trevino, (Eli) of Mission; Cruz Tijerina, (Sandra) of San Antonio; Inez Salinas, (Humberto) of San Antonio; Salvador Tijerina, (Marylou) of San Antonio; and Marisa Rodriquez, (Gerardo) of Mission. He was "Daddy Lupe" to 32 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

Lupe was preceded in death by his parents Salvador and Refugia Tijerina of McAllen, a brother, Juan Hernandez, and a grandson, Isaac Tijerina from San Antonio, TX.

Lupe and Cuala married in Post TX, on December 11, 1954, they remained each other's devoted spouse for 67 years. Lupe loved and depended on his wife throughout his life, the mother of all his children, his companion, and his support in every facet of life, he loved her until the day he died. They chose to stay in the valley to raise their children and to be close to family. Lupe always made sure that his children knew they were loved and supported, he always asked questions about their lives, encouraged them to do better, and provided the support they needed to do better. Being a grandpa was one of his greatest pleasures. Whenever possible he attended sporting events, school events, church events, he was wherever he was needed. Watching his grandchildren brought a special joy to his face. Lupe was an avid hunter, he loved to go hunting with his sons, and his daughters, even it was just watching from afar, he was always happy to be out on the ranch. He also loved to travel, his greatest dream was to travel abroad one day, he and his wife got to do that in 2014, when they traveled all over Europe visiting 6 different countries, celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.

He was born and raised in McAllen; he was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Lupe worked at JC Penny Automotive Center, at The Plaza Mall, for many years. He was also the owner of two Texaco stations and was the maintenance manager of Villareal Medical Clinic in McAllen. Lupe will be remembered as a loving husband, grandfather and great-grandfather, a great friend and a father figure to many, he was kind, compassionate, and caring, until the end of his life. The Tijerina family would like to thank and extend our sincere appreciation to the many families and friends who took the time to show their support, love, and understanding.

A visitaton for Guadalupe will be held Sunday, February 20, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel, 3611 North Taylor Road, Mission, Texas 78573 with a rosary at 6:00 PM.

The funeral mass will occur Monday, February 21, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 620 N Dunlap, Mission, Texas.

A burial will follow the mass at La Piedad Cemetery, 1801 Wichita Ave, McAllen, TX 78503.
