Baca's Funeral Chapels - Las Cruces Obituary

GUADALUPE C. VARELA, 65, of Las Cruces died Thursday, July 30, 2015 as a result of cancer. He was born on March 7, 1950 in Chihuahua, Mexico. Lupe as he was fondly known to family and friends was a hard-working man with a strong work ethic. Lupe obtained his general contractor?s license for the State of New Mexico and in 1989, founded Fort Selden roofing company. His dedication and love for his line of work was evident as he established a trusted and reputable business. He was a member of the New Mexico Home Builder?s Association and throughout the years received numerous awards and recognition for the projects in which he was involved. He was well-known and esteemed by many members of the community, including other contractors and building materials manufacturers. In 2013 he retired, however, his love for work kept him busy on his farm, a place that he loved as it was another dream that became a reality. At the farm he found joy in nature, loved the water, the trees and the fresh air. There he also found joy in visiting with long-time friends and relatives. He believed in education and encouraged his family to obtain an education and become good members of society. Lupe had a big heart. He was charitable and believed in helping others in any way possible. For him, it was an honor to contribute to causes such as breast cancer awareness. Most importantly, Lupe was a man of faith. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had a testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. He loved and believed in our Heavenly Father and our Lord Jesus Christ and constantly expressed his gratitude to them for the many blessings bestowed upon him. His example of faith, courage and hard work is his legacy. He will be very loved and greatly missed.
