Gunnar B. Bjornson

Obituary

Bjornson, Gunnar B. Age 66, of Brooklyn Park, died Oct, 22. A proud spirit has been set free. Gunnar was a passionate, talented pilot whose flying days were sadly cut short by a host of medical issues. He struggled valiantly to the very end, but was unable to prevail against great odds. Gunnar passed away at his beloved cabin by the river, and now flies freely and happily under his own power. Preceded in death by parents Bjorn and Birgit and sister, Sylvia. Survived by siblings, Eileen (Chris) Weber, Bryan, Kevin (Carrie), and Bruce (Judy); niece, Amanda and nephews, Luke and Bryan; our dear Auntie Matta; many loving cousins and friends. Celebration of Gunnar's life Sat., Nov. 10, 2:00 pm at West River Road Baptist Church, 8801 W. River Rd., Brooklyn Park.

Not sure what to say?

Thomas St. James and I, Katherine J. Lange, met Gunnar at the Spa. Just heard of his passing. He used to spend sometimes 3 hours, every evening with us. 3 to 4 times a week. He'd tell us amazing stories about him, his mother, Pilots, flying. Even WW II. He was a true gentleman to me and Thomas my brother who was also into history and flying; they were good friends. We still miss him. Now we know what happened to him. A really nice guy, for real. It's not just stuff said. I read all...

I'll never forget you.

Gunnar, We spent hundreds of hours in the simulators at NATCO together teaching as best we could, those 72's are pretty much gone but perhaps we did some good. I am honored too call you my friend we will get together some day and talk again, I'm still flying got to wear out a few more airplanes before I join you.

I used to work on his geo metro,s a bit and he would stop over for advise on repairs after an accident. I always enjoyed his honest gentle spirt. I am so sorry we lost touch over the years,
but I am glad I got to vist him at the cabin. Gunner is truely a good man and I hope we all get to see him again. I recently drove by and knew somthing was wrong when I saw the for sale sign.

Gunner, you made my life better knowing you.
Sincerly Pete Tuzinski

YMCA Camp du Nord will be honoring Gunnar at our annual Esprit du Nord event this coming Saturday at the Town and Country Club. We have a section of our program dedicated to memorials where we have a slideshow of pictures of people from the du Nord community that we have lost in the last year.
Our thoughts have been with you.
-Camp du Nord

I met Gunnar only twice in his well-lived life. First at YMCA Camp du Nord in the mid 1960's, and once again many years later when I visited his mother Birgit in 2008. Memories of his family have been a part of my life and I'm sad to learn of his passing. Fly with Sylvia....

Keep a light on for me...but not in my eyes as I land, please?
