Not sure what to say?

Gus was the first person I saw before my family moved in. As I was sitting in the car with my mother-in-law and 4 year old son waiting for my realtor, Gus came up and knocked on the window. He told me all of the wonderful things this development had to offer. Gus made the development feel like home and its been almost 9 years since we've lived here. Gus was a special guy and I'm sure he's watching all of us from a special place without pain.

Doing what he did best...

Gus was a tireless worker on behalf of families in need. His example is one that inspires us to action, and the Cleveland and Habitat communities will sorely miss his presence and energy.

What a privilege for me to get to work with and know Gus these past few years at Habitat for Humanity - very fond and lasting memories of him! Such an inspiring example for us all.

Gus will be remembered and missed not only by Habitat For Humanity, but also by the many volunteers who worked with him. This goes for not only the "Bay Pres" crew, but the many, many of us others who worked along side him. We have lost a valued worker and friend.

I've known Gus and Vivian well over 20 years as fellow members of Bay Presbyterian. For the past dozen or so years, I remember him most for decorating the church with red helium balloons every Pentecost. A few weeks prior to the event, Gus would invite me, and Beverly after we were married, to arrive at church by 5:30 am to inflate balloons. Gus and Vivian were extremely well organized, and had balloons, strings (in graduated lengths), and helium tanks ready to go for the team of 12 or so. I...

In as much as our dearly beloved brother, Gus, wore over his heart The White Cross of Sigma Chi whose immaculate whiteness symbolized to us the purity of his motives, therefore, it is most appropriate that he bear above his heart our emblem; as we symbolically lay white roses in token of the sweet memories we will always cherish of Gus whom we loved so well.

Gus loved his family, his country, his church and his Cleveland Indians. We first met 20 years ago and he talked alot about his church, Bay Presbyterian. When our family moved to the western suburbs we started to attend Bay Pres and there was Gus with Vivian. He will be sorely missed.

Dear Mautz Family,

We are sorry we cannot attend the memorial service this Saturday. We pray the love of God enfolds you during your journey through grief and the celebration of life for your husband, father, and grandfather. We send you thoughts of comfort. Gus will be missed, but not forgotten. With warm memories, Marilyn and Peter Cake

Gus has been a pillar of service for others in our community and at Bay Pres. He led many Habitat for Humanity house construction projects in Cleveland. He always approached everything with a broad, warm smile.
I will miss the memorial service, but I celelbrate his passing to be with his Lord.
