Gwen Bassett, 96, passed away at home in Nampa, ID, on September 11, 2010. She was born on June 11, 1914, in Agenda, KS to Charles Boal and Ruby Lilly Boal. Gwen met Robert Wade Bassett and they were married on June 27, 1935. They moved from Kansas to San Francisco in the late 1930's and to Paradise in 1958. Her home remained in Paradise until she left to live with her daughter in 2006.

Throughout their married life, Gwen and Bob welcomed the company of friends and family. They enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, card games, and parties. Both loved to dance and spent many Saturday nights at the Paradise Moose Lodge doing just that. Gwen was a long-standing member of the Women of the Moose and held various offices in the Chapter, including Senior Regent. She and husband Bob put countless hours of service into the Lodge. She was a member and past deacon of the First Christian Church of Paradise; belonged to TOPS, Eagles Auxiliary, and ate many lunches at the Paradise Ridge Senior Center. She worked as a beautician for 25 years.

Gwen was preceded in death by Bob in 1999, having enjoyed 64 years of marriage; also, her brother, Max; her sister, Marguerite; and her grandson, Bobby.

Gwen was dearly loved and is missed by her son, Robert Douglas (Connie) of Paradise; her daughter, Janice Hanchey (John) of Nampa, ID; her sister, Juanita Young of Arvado, CO; twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; and a large number of friends.

A celebration of Gwen's life will be held at Chapel of the Pines in Paradise at 3:00 on Saturday, October 9, 2010. Please come and share your memories.

In lieu of flowers, Gwen has requested that contributions be made to the First Christian Church and Hospice of the Ridge.

Bobbie and Janice and families,
Thank you for sharing your wonderful Mother with us all these years. What an absolute delight she has been. I will always think of her as friendly, funny, full of life and a dancer with your Dad. My thoughts are with you.
