CLOSED-B.L. Frederick Memorial Center Obituary

Mrs. Gwendolyn Elizabeth Pride Bostic was born on October 1, 1939, in Matthews, NC, to the late William ‘Badger’ Pride and the late Annie Smith-Pride.

She departed this life into her eternal home on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, after enduring a severe condition of dementia at the Lancaster Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lancaster, SC. She was 82.

For many years she attended Mt. Hopewell Baptist Church in Chester, SC, where she became a member in 1999.

Her early Christian education began at Ben Salem Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC, where she was baptized as a young girl. She was a faithful member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC, until the passing of her husband in 1980.

She was a 1957 graduate of the J.H. Gunn Senior High School and a 1961 graduate of Johnson C. Smith University, where she earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in Elementary Education. She spent most of her teaching career teaching in Chester, Gaffney, and Georgetown, SC.

She was united in holy matrimony to the late Rev. Mayhue Howard Bostic, Jr., who preceded her death on May 9, 1980. To that union was born one son, Mayhue Howard Bostic, III.

She was preceded by her youngest brother, James Alexander Pride of Charlotte, NC. She is survived by her eldest brother, William Edward Pride (Evelyn); her half-brother, Hawthorn Linell Broadway, and sister, Annie Pride-Turner, all of Charlotte, NC. She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her only child, Mayhue Howard Bostic, III of Chester, SC; three grandchildren, Andrea Bostic Gray of Greenville, SC, Frazier Ann Bostic of Taylors, SC, and

Mayhue Howard Bostic, IV of Taylors, SC. She also leaves three nieces, Bridget Wall-Lennon, Crystal Pride-Pharr, and Jill Pride-Williams, in addition to four nephews, James Pride, Jr., Tim Pride, Christopher Turner, and Channing Turner. She will be deeply missed by her family.

Not sure what to say?

Only met Mrs Gwendolyn Elizabeth Pride Bostic once but she was a friendly personable person and had an obvious resemblance to her only child which she did a fine job of raising. God strengthen her family during this time of transition.
