H. Joy Michaelis Cuevas

As a former student of Miss Cuevas', I am sadened to hear of her passing. One of the things I remember most fondly about her was her love of Mardi Gras. I can still remember each grade taking turns going into the cafateria of Sherwood Forest to hear her speak about the history of Mardi Gras. Because of her, I still cringe when I hear somebody say "King Rex". As a substitute teacher, I can only hope I make even one tenth the difference in my students lives as she made in her's. She was a friend to our children and us when she taught at Sherwood Forest School. So thoughtful of our children and wonderful for parents to work with. She could teach today's teachers how to get parents involved with their children and their school. First you have to be a teacher who children and people want to work with.
