Not sure what to say?

Max Vines was a personal friend from 1980 until he passed in 2006. We met through membership in the Athens Toastmasters Club He was a wonderful friend.

Max You were the first member of TM 1779 or Athens TM to welcome me in 1980 at the Holiday Inn I learned much from you, especially use of hand gestures. I think of you often Max.

My wife and I have known Max since about 1971, when I arrived at the uga/USDA (Watkinsville) as a postdoc from the UK. He helped us get settled there. Ever since we have remained good friends with Max and his wife, Vivian. We visit Athens every year and stay for some months. We would see Max and Vivian regularly. He might give me some wood-turning lessons, help me with car problems, advise on various aspects on living in the US ; occasionally we might have a beer together at his place or...

Max was a friend of everyone. He will be greatly missed and long remembered.

Walking into a Toastmasters meeting in 1980 and being greeted by a warm smile and great handshake. Returning to a meeting later and being greeted again by that same warm smile and an outreached hand along with my name. That is how I remember my first meetings with Max Vines. Over the past 26 years I have many memories of the warm heart, gentle laugher and always available help of Max Vines, a very kind man I proudly and with honor call my friend and will never forget.

Dear...

Vivian, please accept our deepest sympathy.

Dr. Vines was always ready and willing to help me with any problem I had when I was employed in the Horticulture Department. His attentive attitude and concentrating look was one which assured me he was totally engulfed in what I was saying regardless of how minor it was. I'll miss the "ole timers" like Dr. Vines, Dr. Tinga and Dr. Mundy.

Max was such a sweetheart of a man and will be greatly missed. We knew him through Toastmasters. He enjoyed the meetings each week and his jokes and laughter always filled the room. He was always kind and compassionate and an encourager to everyone he came into contact with. He was a very special man. Our hearts go out to you. May his legacy continue to be lived out in your lives.

So sorry to hear of Dr. Vines passing.
I was his mailman for 15 years and he was always so nice and always interested in anyone he talked to.
My condolances to his wife and family.
