Not sure what to say?

I met Dick Frew when I first started my teaching career at Pacheco in 1970. Dick was a 6th grade teacher and vice-principal and was responsible for the discipline of the school. The warmth and sense of community that Pacheco embraced everyone with is an indication of his success as a teacher, an administrator, and a friend. He made a huge impact on everyone he knew and will be remembered fondly. My thoughts are with his family.

My sympathy to Mr. Frew's family and friends. I went to Pacheco Elem from 1964-1969. He was my teacher in 6th grade at the beginning. I remember one day I was talking in class while he was teaching, he turned to me and stated very louding "please do not talk while I am teaching". My Mom (Gladys Katchmar) was the noon supervisor and as soon as lunch was out, the students in my class when to tell her before I could, to let her know what Mr. Frew had done. But he was the rock of Pacheco Elem...

Miss Kessler,

I am truly sorry about Mr. Frew, he was the best sub I knew. He was so friendly and nice to all of his students. I will always remember when he asked, "Who had Miss Kessler?", then we would get to bring something to you and get to see you again. We will all miss him.

Yours truly,

He was the nicest sub. I ever had. He gave out candy for getting a right answer. He would tell the class a riddle and would give a prize to the student with a write answer. I will miss Mr. Frew. Cameron Wilson (Strandwood Elementry)

I, too, met Dick when I subbed at Strandwood four years ago. He was so intelligent about children, articulate, and helpful to me as I took over a class he had been subbing in. My interactions were brief, but memorable. He seemed such a gem of a human being, which, of course, must make his passing difficult. My thoughts are with you, Susan, and with his loved ones. - Jessica Beerbaum

Mr. Frew was my teacher at Pacheco Elementary and Pleasant Hill Elementary. I didn't come to appreciate this until I was an adult, but he was one of the most influential educators in my life... always encouraging and genuinely caring. How lucky I was to have known him.

I would like to attend the memorial service; please keep me informed.

Dear Susan,

Our family was so sorry to hear of Dick's passing. We send our heartfelt condolences.
Knowing Dick all those years at Pacheco were memorable ones and he added so much to the lives of my sons Greg and Charles.
Dick was such a wonderful and loving man and our lives are certainly richer for having known him.
Our prayers and thoughts are with you.

I am so saddened by the loss of Dick Frew. I met Dick while he was subbing at Strandwood. He had a great sense of humor and shared his love of cars with the students! He would always start the day by giving the students a riddle and by the end of the day they would hand in their little strip of paper with their answer to that riddle. The children were so excited to hear that Mr. Frew was going to be the substitute. How cool it was to have an older gentleman who had fancy race cars!
