Not sure what to say?

I am heartbroken to have learned years after Hal's death that he was gone. He was my absolute best friend for most of my teenage years. He was my music partner and senior prom date. I loved him deeply. It pains me to know that we had fallen so far out of touch that I didn't know he was gone. I send all of you, his family my deepest condolences and want you to know how much his friendship meant to me in those early days of our figuring out who we were. I send my love.

I just learned of Hal's death today. I worked with Hal on a fundraiser for Act-Up, The Act Up Art Box, and a researcher had contacted me for information about that project. It is so sad that so much of that information will have passed along with Hal, who put tremendous love and energy into the Box. It can be found in several museum collections, including MOMA and The Met. Rest in peace, Hal. I'm so sorry he's gone.

Along with the sadness of the loss of Hal, I carry the special memories of him and his family, whose gestures of kindness and friendship extended past Mitchell to include me.
With many years and miles between us, I include myself among those who grieve, and remember, within this very special family. My love to you forever.

Hal Stephen Goldberg lived;
and all whom knew him had
loved his regal flair for style.

So we all will gather here today
to celebrate his memorium, with
exquisite unconditional affection,
paying tribute to countless ways
his presence touched our hearts
every last time it graced our own;
no person he'd known was immune.

G-d did carefully choose our dearest Hal, whose
omnipotence often occluded you with grandiose
light, with his intense magnificence,...
