Not sure what to say?

Hal, I am so sorry to just be finding out about your passing. We had some wonderful laughs together and I regret we won't share any more. Love to you, and RIP.

Hal, I am so sorry to just be finding out about your passing. We had some wonderful laughs together and I regret we won't share any more. Love to you, and RIP.

News of Hal's death came as a palpable hit. I was Hal's first year roommate on C Dorm at Woodberry Forest and friends through prep school and beyond. His constant humor provided candid insight into life for all of us and happily skewered anyone too serious. Even his targets learned to laugh at themselves. Beneath the cover of this public persona, he was thoughtful, sensitive, honest, and loyal. A lover of music, he introduced me to Jimi Hendrix, ZZ Top, Steely Dan, and so many other...

I am saddened to learn of Hal's passing. I knew him through my son, Whitney, who was his roommate at WFS. I always enjoyed and appreciated Whitney's stories of 'life with Hal', and I know they were close friends. My condolences to Hal's family and friends. I know he will be missed.

I got the sad word yesterday about Hal's passing. If humor is a sign of intelligence, he was always the smartest guy in the room. A few years after Woodberry, I was fortunate enough to get to see him off and on all one summer when I was interning in NC. Needless to say, that was a fun summer. I'm sure I speak for all of his WFS classmates in saying that we will miss him.

Sad news about a wonderful classmate. While I only had the pleasure of seeing Hal a few times at our Woodberry Forest reunions after our graduation in 1980, he never failed to bring a smile to my face. I have numerous humorous recollection about Hal from our days at the Forest. A wonderful soul, he is greatly missed.

I was very sad to learn of Hal's passing this morning. I have fond memories of Hal from our days at Woodberry Forest. While we did not see each other often after high school, I always enjoyed seeing Hal at reunions. He was a kind soul, with a fantastic sense of humor. What a wonderful guy. I know he will be missed by his family, and I hope you know he will be missed by his friends.

Dear Warren family,

My heart sank to my shoes when I heard this morning of Hal's passing. I was a classmate at WFS, and times spent with Hal are some of my very best memories at Woodberry. I honestly don't think I've every had more fun or laughed so much with anyone else. My best memory is the week that we spent with some other classmates at the beach house on Topsail Island. It was 1985, and we had all reconnected at our 5th year reunion. Not wanting the fun to end, we set up a...

Denise & Marie,

I was shocked to read of Hal's passing, as I had just sent him a message via Facebook of a mutual friend's passing in early August. I am so sorry for this tremendous loss to you and your mom, and I will pray for peace to your heart, soul & spirit.

With much love,

Betty
