Hank Bauer is my favorite Yankee. I remember seeing him at Yankee Stadium and noticed he had gray hair sticking out from under his cap. I'm sure from the tough times he had been through. As a kid I loved Hank, I remember Al Kaline robbing Hank of a home run, I was so mad I threw the radio against the wall. Hank was a ferocious competitor. As a kid I loved that man. My father, John McGinty, was a fellow Marine Raider in WWII and was great friends with Hank. If you get a chance, read the book titled Semper Fi, Mac and turn to page 197. On that page, Hank tells the story of my father getting shot in Okinawa. I'd love to hear from Hank's children and share our stories.
