Hank Still
09/22/1942 - 05/02/2025
Charles Henry "Hank" Still, died on Friday, May 2, 2025, in Houston, after a brief illness. He was 82 years of age. Hank was born on September 22, 1942, in Lubbock, to Charles Alphonso Still and Henri Sue Boone Still.
Hank grew up in Lubbock, graduating from Monterey High School in 1961, and then attended Texas Tech University, where he majored in accounting, and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Following his graduation from Texas Tech in 1965, he attended The University of Texas School of Law, where he was an outstanding student and an editor of the Texas Law Review.
After graduating from law school and taking the Texas bar exam in the summer of 1968, Hank moved, with his then-wife Gena and their infant son, to Houston to begin work as an associate at the law firm of Fulbright & Jaworski (now Norton Rose Fulbright). He would live the rest of his life in Houston, where he built a distinguished career as a corporate lawyer at Fulbright and was actively involved in the community.
Hank became a partner at Fulbright in 1975 and served for many years as head of the firm's Corporate Section and as a member of its executive committee. He remained a partner at Fulbright until he retired from the firm at age 65, only to return to the firm later in an "of counsel" position after a brief stint at another firm. Hank was particularly well known as an expert in corporate governance, authoring a widely consulted treatise on that topic published by Fulbright. He also was a member of the Corporate Laws Committee of the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association, a select committee of corporate lawyers that promulgated and updates the Model Business Corporation Act, which is the foundation for the corporations statutes of a majority of U.S. states.
Hank was, for many years, an active parishioner at Christ Church Cathedral, the seat of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, in Houston. He served multiple terms on the Cathedral's vestry, including a stint as Senior Warden of the vestry. He also served for many years as a member of the board of St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston.
Hank was an avid bird hunter, particularly quail, for most of his life. He was a voracious reader and, for a good part of his adult life, a passionate amateur photographer. Hank loved spending time in northern New Mexico, where he enjoyed hiking, horseback riding and whitewater rafting adventures with his children. He was a fixture in the stands at his grandchildren's sports games.
Hank is survived by his son, Charles Henry Still, Jr. and his wife Michele Barth Still; his daughter, Kathryn Still Wilson and her husband Stephen Glenn Wilson; his grandchildren, Anna Kathryn Still, Henry Grant Still, and George Odell Still; his sister, Nina Thompson and her children and grandchildren; and his wife, Denise Allen Still.
The family thanks the doctors, nurses, and staff of Houston Methodist Hospital for their compassionate care and support during Hank's final days.
A memorial service for Hank is to be conducted at one o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 29th of May, at Christ Church Cathedral, 1117 Texas Avenue in Houston, where Rev. Liz Kronenberg is to officiate.
Immediately following all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the nearby Sanders Room.
