I was heartbroken to hear the news of the passing of Professor de Groot. He was a mentor and friend through all my years at the University of Toronto. I had the good fortune also to work closely with him on the University College Symposium Committee. Professor de Groots influence was profound, and his insight and wit have been part of my life ever since I first met him.
