Harley H. Flathers

Harley was one of the most positive people we ever met. Despite all of the challenges that life threw at him, he always persevered. He could visit with anyone and always found something in common with whomever he was around. Harley will be missed greatly and remembered dearly.

There will never be another like Harley. He and my husband spent too many hours and days at Samaritan rehab, watching football and telling tales, hoping to get better. He had a memory that was unbelievable. And loved showing pictures of his lovely family. Such a loss. God's blessings. They're both enjoying what's beyond those pearly gates.

I enjoyed listening to Harley on the radio and his weekly articles in the Post Bulletin.He was a very well liked and very deserving of his many awards. He will be missed.

My wife & only I counted ourselves among Harley (and June) casual acquaintances, over 30+ yrs, but every time we ran into him/them we were made to feel like the best of friends. That, as much as Harley's unquenchable spirit & triumph over personal adversity, was what made this man special. He will be long remembered in Rochester/Olmsted. Rest in Peace.

Harley was a dear friend of our family. He went to Chatfield, Mn. High with my mother Barbara Wooner and knew my father Kenneth Wooner who also was from Chatfield, Mn. As the years went by we all became friends and I remember the years of participating in the Parapalegic Fundraisers that Harley would create with local talent and perform at the St. Mary's Auditorium (now gone, I believe). My brother and I used to Tap Dance at these and we did a couple of Melodramas at the same auditorium...

I first met Harley in 1941 when we were school mates at the old Dog Town country school. Although he was an "upperclassman" I "caught up" to him again when we both attended Chatfield High School. Although Harley graduated a few years ahead of me, over the passing decades, even though our paths did not cross that often, Harley never forgot me and would always call me by my grade school moniker, "Donnie". As other admirers will attest to, Harley never forgot a face or a name and made you feel...

HF, thanks for the memories. Our KWEB creation "Harley's House" has moved to that great studio in the sky: RIP!

I've known Harley since my days as Miss Rochester. He was a friend of my Uncle, Cal Smith, and I cherish all of the wonderful memories I have working with him at pageants. Harley was a very special man with more courage than I ever hope to have. Rochester has lost a part of its history. My sympathy to all of the family.
