Harley Paul Haley, 84, of 16954 59th Ave., Chippewa Falls, town of LaFayette, went to be with his heavenly family on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at his residence due to many years of complications from diabetes. He was born on November 16, 1925 to Laura (LaFaive) and Benjamin Haley in Chippewa Falls. He attended Notre Dame Grade School and graduated from McDonell High School in 1946. Harley enlisted in the Merchant Marines during World War II and was stationed aboard ship in the South Pacific. Later he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Upon return he was employed at W.S. Darley Co. and then entered Eau Claire State Teachers' College where he graduated in 1957. Harley married Rosemary Monarski on June 4, 1955 at Notre Dame Church in Chippewa Falls. After graduation he was employed at Western Adjustment Co. in the insurance claims department. Later he joined General Adjustment Bureau and, after that, Milwaukee Mutual Insurance Co. He became a manager, Branch Manager and District Manager, where he was in charge of several offices. He retired in April 1992. Harley was an avid tennis player and was a member of the "over 33" tennis club in Chippewa Falls and the Eau Claire Tennis Club, where he played for many years. He loved reading, mostly mystery novels, and everything he could find about World War II. He also loved hunting, and fishing and spending time with friends and family. Many enjoyed the stories of his boyhood escapades and his repertoire of jokes was never ending. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all of them. Harley is survived by: his wife, Rosemary; sons, Todd (Debi), Gavin (Anita) and Ryan (Samantha); daughters, Heidi and Rhiannon; grandchildren: Natasha (Justin), Natalie, Erin, Joshua (Carla), Jacob (Jacque), Elizabeth, Ingram and Scout; great grandchildren, Jordan, Shyanne, Averie, Claire and Tayla Rose (in November), many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Valentine, Lyman, Robert and Kenneth; and sisters, Doris McKay, Beatrice Bakeman and Mary, at birth. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Chippewa Falls. Rev. Mark Pierce will be celebrant of the funeral Mass. Military rites will be conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council. Friends may call one hour before the time of services on Saturday, November 5, at Notre Dame Church, Chippewa Falls. In lieu of flowers, the family, requests donations given to McDonell High School or Notre Dame Church. We would like to give special thanks to Lisa, our Home Health nurse and Dr. Tom Chisholm for their kind loving care and friendship. Horan Funeral Home in Chippewa Falls is in charge of arrangements.
