Harold Dale Alexander, 68, of Searcy, Arkansas, passed from this life on January 22, 2015. Harold was born February 5, 1946, to Joy Copeland Alexander and Flanoy Alexander of Delight, Arkansas. Harold was president of his senior class, voted Mr. Delight High School, captain of the 1964 state champion basketball team that finished the season 42-0, and was the captain of the West State All-star Team the same year. Harold played basketball at Harding University and was team captain his final two years, receiving Harding's Award for Outstanding Athlete. He married Jenene Hart on August 18, 1967. They enjoyed 47 wonderful years of marriage. Following graduation, Harold was a high school basketball coach and school counselor for the high school in Hope, Arkansas. He served as a school counselor in Searcy Public Schools before beginning his work at Harding University in 1991. Attaining the rank of Associate Professor, his accomplishments at Harding include directing the Stephens' Student Scholar Program, creating the Academic Advising Center, and serving on and chairing a number of committees. Harold was a faithful and dedicated Christian. He served as a deacon for the Hope Church of Christ, and as a deacon and elder for the College Church of Christ in Searcy, Arkansas. His service included song leader, Bible class teacher, home-Bible-study host, and care group leader. Harold was an avid tennis player and enjoyed the outdoors. He could build or repair just about anything and was called upon numerous times by family and friends to make or fix something. He enjoyed traveling. He and Jenene visited 48 of the 50 states together. He was a loving "Papa" to his six grandchildren and enjoyed playing ball with them and taking them for rides on his 4-wheeler. In all avenues of his life, Harold was viewed as a leader and problem-solver. He had a deep faith and a heart for serving. Harold is survived by his wife, Jenene, of Searcy, Arkansas; a mother-in-law, Wanda Hart, of Searcy, Arkansas; a brother, Wallace Alexander, and wife, Delores, of Delight, Arkansas; a sister, Lynn England, and husband, Don, of Searcy, Arkansas; a daughter, Stacey Cox, and husband, Brian, of Cabot, Arkansas; a son, Scott Alexander, and wife, Heather, of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Kristy Brown, and husband, Marshall, of Rogers, Arkansas; six grandchildren: Grace, Caroline, and Hayes Cox; and Ethan, Griffin, and Tyson Brown; and numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be Sunday, January 25, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home in Searcy, Arkansas. Funeral services will be Monday, January 26, at College Church of Christ in Searcy, Arkansas, at 11:00 a.m. with Brian Cox, Scott Alexander, Marshall Brown, and Todd Patten officiating.
