Harry and I were NIST colleagues for a number of years. Adding to my note of a couple years ago, I remember Harry to be a smiling guy, a respectful administrator, and a supporting colleague in my career. Besides on-the-job interactions, I remember at least a couple of receptions at his home in Montgomery Village for his fellow nondestructive testing researchers. They were good memories, at work and elsewhere.

I first crossed paths Harry Berger at a conference on non-destructive testing in the late '70s, just before going to NBS myself. There I joined him in the NDT field where he funded some of my research using ultrasound to study material properties and look for defects in solids.
Harry was a most respectful person of others' work, a class guy who felt like a colleague even though he was my superior. It was a pleasure visiting him in his office in the Physics Building, discussing ideas...
