Harold Eavey Obituary

Harold Wengert Eavey CHARLOTTE - Harold Wengert Eavey passed away peacefully at his home in Charlotte on Monday, May 20, 2013. He began his adventure here on earth on July 16, 1924 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania and spent most of his early years in Wheaton, IL. He graduated from Wheaton College in 1948, where he met the love of his life, Shirley Bremer. Harold proudly served his country as an officer in the Navy during WWII. Shirley and Harold celebrated 62 years of marriage living on a lake, an ocean, a river and most recently a golden pond. Harold was a mentor and friend to many in his 40 year career at Scripture Press and ServiceMaster. He served in executive roles in marketing, training and development. His passion was coaching and growing young leaders, including those in his own family. He is deeply loved and will be sorely missed by wife, Shirley; his four children, Susan (Fred) Devin, Laurie (Bruce) Warner, Brian Eavey, Lisa (Aubrey) Walker; his grandchildren, Ryan, Peter, Brandon, Alex and Alyssa; three great grandchildren and his dog, Bambi. He will also be missed by his sister, Miriam Eavey. Harold made life fun and adventurous for his entire family. He was a kid at heart! Harold dedicated his life to the Lord at a very early age. He lived out his faith in his family, his career, his friendships and his church. A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 23 at Carriage Club, 5800 Old Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28226. The family suggests in lieu of flowers any memorials be directed back to your own faith and family. Arrangements are entrusted to McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212. Condolences and notes of sympathy at www.McEwenfs.com.

Sorry to learn from Jerry Lacy about Harold's death. He and Lloyd Cory use to teach Old Testament stories to me at the Glen Ellyn Bible Church Sunday School in the early 1950s. He was a great guy to know like so many adults at that church when Kurt and I were growing up.

Dear Shirley, I am sad to hear of Harold's death but glad to be put in touch with you in this way. We lived on the same street as the Eavey's for years, and he was in my brother Phil's class in the Academy. Our mothers were in the same prayer group. I remember you, as well. I married Don Schatz in 1969 and we now live in Jamaica Plain, MA. ([email protected]) With love, Eunice Russell Schatz

Lillian and I appreciate the years our paths crossed here in Illinois and my service with Harold on the alumni board. Psalms 116:15

I knew Harold best during swim season,as he always did a cannonball into the pool, assuring the women that their hair would get wet. he was a very witty man. I will miss him this summer.

Dear Eavey Family
Remembering Mr Eavey brings a smile to my face. He was joyful and brought joy to others I remember his involvement at our church in Glen Ellyn in so many ways. He was one of the elders listening to my testimony when I joined the church. I remember how he treated and loved Mrs Eavey so dearly. How he led us all in prayer and reflection while camping in Lillian AL. What a blessing he has been to me and so many others. My condolences to all of you

Brian and family our thoughts and prayers are with you. As I read through the obituary and look at the picture I can only imagine the discussions Brain and his dad had, probably created a number of family memories.

Dear Eavey Family, Sorry to hear about your loss. I just read his obituary. He built quite a legacy and wonderful family. Now I know where Brian gets his "kid at heart" and thirst for adventure. I want to give thanks for his service to our country. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
