Not sure what to say?

I attended Matthews Elementary School from the mid to the late 80s and Remember "Mr. Hood" as we all called him very well. I spent a time or two in his office. I was in 4th grade at Matthews the last year they allowed corporal punishment in public schools. I remember Mr. Hood ran a tight ship. He was nice but stern and didn't allow monkey business. I really do believe that the education system took a steep nose dive after guys like Mr. Hood were forbidden from having that ability to use...

Love, Donna Love Huntley

Harold Hood was one of a kind. He understood the importance of building a community of support in leading a school and his bigger than life personality provides the rich raw material for storytelling decades into the future. We will miss Harold so much. Our love to this special family.

Mr. Hood was my K-6 principal at Matthews Elementary 1975-1980. My fondest memories were of him and the many wonderful teachers whose love of children and learning I was blessed to experience. Miss Tillman, Mrs. Floyd, Mr. Turner, and others whose names escape me right now made my childhood special. I am a grateful example of the work he did to integrate Charlotte's schools, and I'm sad for our collective loss of him and others like him who had the courage and the stamina to advocate in the...

I remember Mr. Hood well from back in the day (1985-88). He was tough but he cared. I was thinking of him just the other day for some odd reason. He exemplified everything that once worked in the education system and what we need our education system to return too. He was a good man.

My dad and I had the honor of knowing Mr. Hood while hanging out at Bojangles. he was a great listener, a lot of fun,a kind and dear friend. he will be missed. RIP Mr. Hood. Deborah Johnson..Asheville NC

What I remember about Mr Hood was his humor. He always had a joke or a smile for his students, teachers or parents at Matthews. In the 80's I had the pleasure to work for him as a teaching assistant. My children also attended Matthews. My most memorable time was when Mr Hood was on stage with the Briarhoppers in our school gym. Condolences to his family. Connie Berthold

I had honor to know Mr Hood from our morning time at bojangles with my dad. he was always a good listener, interested in our lives and also the world around us. he was so much fun to be around and we always had a smile when we were in the good company of Mr. Hood. RIP..

Harold tried to teach us that if we enjoyed teaching then the students would enjoy learning. He always looked for the positive and usually found it.
