As I pass age 71, I think more about my father, Harold Miller. I wish I could spend one more afternoon with him.

In spite of my having been a pretty poor student in my later
years in high school, I always
looked forward to Harold's
English class (Junior and Senior
years). His charisma and smile
were highlights of his classes,
and his readings of Chaucer,
Beowulf, Shakespeare, and other
classics made learning fun rather
than a burden. I'd always had an
interest in writing, but Harold
helped bring out what I thought
I'd lost. Although my career field
is electronics...

Mr. Miller had a profound effect on this former student (1962-1966). I pursued a degree in English, and I taught English for most of 30 years in the public schools. I owe this life-choice to Mr. Miller.

With the yearbook since 1958, he has been responsible for many of the transitions that have taken place…The most important is through his photography. He has captured rare occurrences…through the ’60’s and ’70’s. His aim as a photographer...

“Gerard –

Although our opinions on many subjects are different, your ideas of democracy, and a progressive civilization plan, are opposite from my own theories – we have always come out of every argument smiling…I hope we remain friends...

I have known Harold for 35 years. In all that time, I never knew him to use a negative word to me. No matter what the circumstance, he only gave encouragement and compliments. He never gave me a lecture, though one was often due.

I was often able to appeal to his humorous side. We would talk and trade stories and I could bring out that infectious smile of his. His wisdom, insight and all of his traits will always be with me. I feel lucky for having the opportunity to have...
