Harold Lee Osborne

It was obvious that Harold's health was declining when we visited last June at the 40th Anniversary Field Day of the Idaho Forest Owners Association in Sandpoint. We talked about bark beetles and root disease while walking a forest trail. We stood in a pile of sawdust, slabs and lumber while looking over the portable sawmill at the Kaniksu Land Trust's Pine Street Woods. Typical forester talk that we shared over the years. I met Harold while I was a student at University of Idaho both as an undergraduate and later as a grad student. I continued to work with Harold following graduation, mostly when I worked for Bennett Lumber in Princeton. Harold was a good person and very knowledgeable and practical forester. I learned a lot from Harold and and a great deal of respect for him. I'm sorry to hear of his passing.

Spent many hours working with Harold on U of I's School Forest. He was a pleasure to work with and his love for the Forests and Forest Management was infectious. I will never forget my time in the woods with Harold.

Harold was a joy. He was full of optimism, even when going through the hardest trials. He was generous with the produce he grew, and blessed our family and others. His love of forest management, and of the comradery that goes with hard work, was contagious. He stopped by our office regularly and will be missed immensely. His family remains in our prayers.
