Dear Nancy and family,
Ralph and I are sorry to hear of Ed's passing. We enjoyed the short period of time that we knew Ed and had the opportunity to share visits and stories with him. You will be in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Chris and Ralph Smith (Maize,KS)

Nancy & family,
Sorry to hear of your loss, and want you to know you have my thoughts and prayers. Although it has been years since I have visited with Ed, I always considered him a friend (from high school and ESU).

Mr. Poertner was one of the finest educators I have ever known. He was my son's principal at Maynard School during kindergarten and first grade. I served as an officer of the P.T.A. and worked with him. His philosophy was not only to educate in academics, but to develop good citizens in every aspect. I spoke of him in many sermons over the years. Comfort and peace for his family and friends.
