I offer deepest condolences to my dear friend Vicki and the family. I had the pleasure of working alongside Hal in the East Asian Division when I first started at VOA in the late 1970s. He was a wonderful and kind colleague- showing me the ropes, giving me valuable tips how to improve the production of my radio reports, and infusing both humor and professional expectation in our daily routine. His passing is a great loss.
