Harold Ticho

Dr. Ticho was my professor for a 1957 UCLA class "Electricity Theory." It was one of my favorite classes, no doubt because of the clear and concise teaching style of Dr. Ticho. Our textbook was a set of printed notes written by Dr. Ticho. I have kept these notes to this very day. Unfortunately, as I prepare for my last days at 86 years old, I am necessarily disposing of cherished books, etc. and his course notes must be included in the disposal process as none of my descendants will read...

I remember working at UCLA's High Energy Physics lab, around 1962-1963, as a part-time "scanner" of the films from the bubble-chamber experiments. At that time, those of us who worked there all thought Dr. Ticho would win the Nobel prize. I see that that thought carried on throughout his life. But he was instrumental in helping the others who did win. While few knew of his work back then, it is gratifying to read his obituary and all of his accomplishments and how much he was valued. ...

With all due respect, how will we ever replace a man like that?
