Not sure what to say?

Because of a man like Westy - I was fortunate to spend my entire career in college coaching and administration. I also spent many wonderful summers at The Wavus Camp with West, Shirley and family --what a joyous time. They always did it the "right way". I remember the day Westy broke his finger taking down a goal at the end of camp --heard him say "DadGummit!" What an honor to play for him.

So sorry to hear of the loss of such a kind and generous man. I have many fond memories of my Wavus days, and Uncle Westy was a major part of these memories.

Westy was one of the most enthusiastic men I have ever known. He gently made all the right decisions. He was a wonderful Mentor to me and so many. What a life! Thanks Westy! My condolences to all his Children, Grand Children, and Great Grand Children. A very special Man!

Westy would say: "Mud cleats" - "we need mud cleats". Dave, Woody and I would rush to put on the mud cleats for the entire team. What a pain! But we all do anything for Westy.
Thank you Westy for being such an important part of my college career.

It's been a long time since we were all at Orono High School. I was very saddened by the passing of your dad. I want you to know how much I respected him, and how rewarding it was to have been a part of his football program. I have many fond memories of those years with your dad. My deepest sympathy to you and your families.

Dear Westerman Family,

I played for "Westy" from 1961 to 1964 and am truly saddened to hear of his death. He was a wonderful human being and a great coach. We kept in touch with each other by occasional letter, something that meant a lot to me.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you in this very difficult time.

With deepest sympathy,

Bill Riviere, '65 & '67

We have lost a great coach and person. As a player for Coach and a camp councelor at Wavus I learned about integrity and commitment. 1961 was a magical year for our team and I will cherish that time with Westy and my teammates.

I enjoyed many years in Jefferson, walking the grounds of Wavus Camps, while my Uncle, Wesley Nichols took care of the campground. I loved staying in the large maticulous yellow with white trim farm house. Mr. Westerman was detrimental in leaving many happy memories with all that stayed at his camp. It was a one in a million, first class operation. He will be missed.

Our sympathy to the family of Harold. We enjoyed knowing Harold and Shirley through our connection with the Orono United Methodist Church.
