Not sure what to say?

Our Hoosier state is a much better place for all that our friend Potch contributed to it and I feel fortunate to have spent so much quality time with him --- Senator Johnny Nugent

Darlene, Kim, Tara, and Johnna - As you are well aware, the love and respect for your husband and father as a friend and distinguished lawmaker are universally recognized. Potchie stood for all that is "good for the people" in his public service. You love him, we love him, and we are all better for having had him touch our lives

Potch was a true gentleman. I first met him when I was a young assistant to Governor Orr. He was always helpful and willing to listen. A few times he put me with great golfers at his outing so I could win a prize or two. He will be deeply missed by all.

"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." Dr. Seuss -- This was the lesson I learned from a great friend and leader in Potch Wheeler. He always did the right thing no matter who was involved. Thank you for the many memories. I will miss you, but look forward to seeing you again one day.

Love, Your Friend

There was not a kinder, gentler soul on this earth than Potch. He was one of those unique persons who would always tell you the plain truth. I know that he is now helping St Peter organize their caucus meetings with the saints.
My thoughts and prayers are with Darlene and the family.

I served as an intern for Senator Wheeler back in the mid 1980's. What I will always remember is how much everyone that came into contact with him really just loved him. He was a very gentle, caring person even in the sometimes difficult world of politics, and that is something I will always remember and have tried to take with me in my life. He went out of his way to help me get started and for that I'll be forever grateful.

Senator Wheeler was my "second" father. He took a southern Indiana gal, not too slick in the affairs of government, and taught me more than any of my college courses did. So many things I remember about him bring a smile to my face. He was so special. The last two years were pretty tough for both of us and I'll miss our weekly phone calls to cheer each other up about our ailments. I'll miss all those old stories he shared. He was one of the greatest men I'll ever know and I find comfort...

Potch was such a kind and honest person. He often brought much needed humor to the floor of the Senate and could always make the Senators laugh regardless how serious the situation. He will truly be missed but our memories will live on with the wonderful stories we all have from knowing him. My sincere sympathy to the family.

Potch was a mentor to me. He always listened to my concerns and gave good advice. He was also a very dear friend. I have missed him since we both retired and will continue to miss him. May he rest in the gentle hands of God. My sympathy and prayers to Darlene and the family.
