Harriet E. Steinke, age 91, died peacefully on February 2, 2014 at Henry Ford - Belmont Nursing Center in Harper Woods. Harriet was born on September 6, 1922 in Detroit, the daughter of William and Julia Roeglin. Harriet graduated Cass Technological High School in 1940 and worked at Parke-Davis Co. and also for the J. L. Hudson Company on Woodward as a package wrapper. In 1943 Harriet married Wilfred M. Steinke in Grosse Pointe Woods. Shortly after Wilfred served his country during the ending days of World War II. After the war the young couple eventually settled in Harper Woods in 1949. Mrs. Steinke enjoyed gardening, traveling with her husband and boating. She was a long time member of Peace Lutheran Church on Warren Avenue in Detroit. Harriet is survived by her son, Wilfred L. Steinke. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred M. Steinke in 1980 and her daughter, Lynn Greene. Visitation for Mrs. Steinke will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon, time of service, on Friday, February 7, 2014 at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. Rev. David Rutter, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church in St. Clair Shores will officiate. Interment will be private at Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia. The family has suggested memorial donations be made to either St. Paul Lutheran Church, 22915 Greater Mack Avenue, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080 or Reverence Home Health & Hospice, 37650 Garfield Road; Clinton Township, MI 48036.
