Harriett was my dear aunt--my mother's oldest sister and one of the most important women in my life. Particularly because our mom passed away so young, she was a source of connection to my mom for me that I treasure. After my parents died, I remember going to visit her and Hardy in Fenton--they seemed so happy and worldly, so interested in life and so young at heart. And then seeing her out in Phoenix--with every trip I would marvel at how young she stayed. Harriett certainly had the famous...

When my father and my brother went on fishing trips in the summer, my mother and I would "get into mischief." On one of our forays, we went downtown to see "The Tenth Man," which was my first straight play. I was 10 years old, and very proud that she thought I was old enough to see one! Afterwards we picked out my first lipstick, which was "Strawberry Vanilla," by Revlon. Of course I was only allowed to wear it in the house!

I taught with Harriet at Dye Elementary for a number of years. She was a wonderful person and a great teacher. I feel my life has been enriched by having known her.

She was God's gift to those who knew her and to those whose lives she touched.
