Harriett was my dear aunt--my mother's oldest sister and one of the most important women in my life. Particularly because our mom passed away so young, she was a source of connection to my mom for me that I treasure. After my parents died, I remember going to visit her and Hardy in Fenton--they seemed so happy and worldly, so interested in life and so young at heart. When my father and my brother went on fishing trips in the summer, my mother and I would "get into mischief." On one of our forays, we went downtown to see "The Tenth Man," which was my first straight play. I was 10 years old, and very proud that she thought I was old enough to see one! Afterwards we picked out my first lipstick, which was "Strawberry Vanilla," by Revlon. Of course I was only allowed to wear it in the house!

I taught with Harriet at Dye Elementary for a number of years. She was a wonderful person and a great teacher. I feel my life has been enriched by having known her.

She was God's gift to those who knew her and to those whose lives she touched.
