Sioux Falls- Harry T. Anderson, age 87, formerly of Hudson, SD, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Sanford USD Medical Center. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 25 at Our Savior?s Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Harry Tilford Anderson was born February 2, 1926 on a farm in rural Hudson, SD to Carl Richard and Hilda Sophie Anderson (Hagen). Harry attended Blanchard and West Branch Schools and graduated in 1944 from Hudson High School.
After graduation Harry farmed near Hudson. Harry and Audrey were married on August 23, 1946. In 1954, Harry and Audrey bought a farm four miles south of the Newton Hills State Park. Here they raised their family.
Harry was not only a farmer, but also a carpenter, painter, electrician, and plumber ? a MacGyver of sorts. He could make something out of nothing. He did custom field work and owned and operated a corn sheller, harvesting crops for several area farmers. He was also a hail adjuster for insurance companies, and also did land surveys and measured grain storage bins for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS).
Being involved in community was important to Harry. In his early years, he served numerous terms as president of the West Branch School Board, Hudson Lutheran Church Board, and was a member of the State Bank of Hudson Board. Harry also enjoyed participating in community sports, especially playing on softball and bowling leagues. He liked horses and participated in the Hudson Saddle Club. Harry loved to travel with his family. They took many trips to Chicago, IL and San Jose, CA to visit relatives.
In April of 1969, Harry received his broker?s real estate license and immediately opened his own business in Hudson, SD. He continued in the real estate business opening an office in Sioux Falls selling agriculture, commercial and residential real estate until he retired at the age of 80.
Harry?s hard work and dedication to his career resulted in several awards including: the Distinguished Sales and Marketing Achievement Award from the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce and Sales Marketing Executives of Sioux Falls, a plaque from Governor George Mickelson recognizing this award and declaring a day in honor of Harry T. Anderson, and the Sterling Sales Award and the Spirit Award from Coldwell Banker-GKR.
Harry was also active in the community. He was an active member of the local, state, and national Board of Realtors, a member of Sioux Falls Multiple Listing, owner of Anderson Realty and the Red Carpet Real Estate Sales in Sioux Falls, plus he owned a regional Red Carpet franchise office for SD, ND, and MN.
Harry was a member of Our Savior?s Lutheran Church and was deeply thankful for the television ministry in his declining years. Harry enjoyed spending time at Active Generations and called it his second home. Harry and Audrey were living at the Inn on Westport, a Sioux Falls retirement community, at the time of his passing.
Harry T. Anderson passed away June 19, 2013 at 7:15 PM with the loving and compassionate care of the staff at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He was grateful for having shared his life with so many kind, loving, and amazing people.
Harry is survived by his wife of 66 years, Audrey, Sioux Falls; children, Robert, Sioux Falls, Dr. Rhonda, Sioux Falls, Roxanne (Doug) Horner, Charlotte, NC, and Richard (Jaye), Sioux Falls; 9 grandchildren-Rochelle (Dave) Perry, Austin, TX, Roth Anderson, Sioux Falls, Brooke Horner and Jill Horner, Charlotte, NC, Erin Horner, Raleigh, NC, Tannen Loge, Sioux Falls, Layne Miller (Andrew) Minneapolis, MN; Alison Anderson, Sioux Falls; and Brian Anderson, Pinehurst, NC; 5 great-grandchildren- Shermane Anderson, Samantha Anderson, Calvin Perry, Elliot Perry, and Levi Perry; 4 sisters-Hildegarde Anderson, Amy Caligari, Eleanor Pfeil, and June (Al) Rodrigues all of Chicago, IL; along with numerous other friends, colleagues, and relatives. He is preceded in death by brother, John William "Bill" Anderson and grandson, Russell Anderson.
