I knew Bates during his formative years and through work, friendship and college. I always knew that he was going into the army when he was done with school. Everybody was fine with that. I never worried about him because Bates was always the one that we looked up to and knew that with him, everybody was safe. Great guy, well respected, loved him, and will be sorely missed.
