Harry A. (Tony) Hennen Jr., 78, of Glenwood,MN, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018, of complications of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) at St. Cloud Hospital in Minnesota.

Tony was born in Morris, MN to Harry and Rose (Murphy) Hennen. He was a veteran in the United States Army, serving for two years with some time spent in Germany. He was united in marriage to Phyllis (Papineau) in 1964. He completed his PhD in Electrical Engineering at University of Minnesota and moved to Illinois in 1971. There he accepted his first position with Motorola, where he worked for 27 years, retiring as a Corporate Vice President. In moving to Woodstock in 1977, he fulfilled a dream of owning a farm with 25 acres on Dean Street where the couple raised their daughters and made many lifelong friends. In 2009, their Woodstock home was donated to be a part of the Land Conservancy of McHenry County and now others can enjoy a walk through the "back 20" just as he did.

They retired to Minnesota in 2009, where he had a hand in farming and enjoyed being closer to family including his mom, siblings and cousins. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Phyllis Hennen; two daughters, Tonya (Bill Reiswig) Hennen and Tara (Luke) Wickham, both of Olympia, WA; siblings Carole Jokiel, Patricia Farstrup, Bill Hennen, Marcia Hennen Eder & Sue Hennen and many nieces & nephews. Also surviving are granddaughters Linnea Hennen and Ella & Parker Wickham. He is preceded in death by his parents Harry & Rose Hennen and sister Dorothy Hennen Barber.

Tony's memorial and internment will be held on November 11, 2018 in Morris, MN. An oak will be planted in his honor at Hennen Conservation Area in Woodstock, IL. Instead of flowers, please consider a donation to your local hospice organization (or to Courage Cottage of Morris,MN) or the Land Conservancy of McHenry County.

Not sure what to say?

I worked for, or with, Tony for perhaps a total of 14 years at Motorola. I can only say that he was a brilliant leader, adviser, engineer and problem solver. My condolences to the family upon his passing. He will be missed by his coworkers.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and memories from family and friends. God Bless, Scott and Coleen Kunzie

Harry (Tony) Hennen was a delightful neighbor. We had many great social parties. My loving sympathy, Alice

A big brother is someone who rigs up an old discarded sink in your hayrack play house to have running water! A big brother is someone who can show you an easier way to do you algebra homework. A big brother is someone who's bedroom is filled with mysterious wires, ham radios and Morse code! A big brother is someone who brings glamour to the farm with the addition of his future spouse, Phyl! That is if you big brother is Tony! Love you brother. Marcia
