So sorry to hear about Jeff's passing and difficult couple of years. I came to Texas to work with Jeff and didn't quite know what I was getting into. He pushed us hard, let us flounder, and in the end, led me to success both directly and indirectly. His name and having worked with him opened doors for me that would have otherwise remained closed. Very sorry to hear of Jeff's passing. As his last University of Texas grad student ('94) he affected my life deeply, as he did many others. As a scientist his contributions will change the world. My years in his lab were intense and challenging; in retrospect they were some of the best years of my life. My deepest condolences to his family.
