McCaffrey, Harry It is hard to write an obituary for a hero. There is so much to say, so many memories to recall and each memory seems in itself a full story worthy of a long telling. Heroes are often larger than life and this was true of my father, Harry Joseph McCaffrey, Jr. who passed away...

Not sure what to say?

Harry was my sister and late brother in law's neighbor. He was always stopping by when we were outside to say hello and ask how we were. He was always smiling and encourging. I will truly miss Harry and am so thankful to have known him.

My condolences to the family and friends of Mr. McCaffrey. What a wonderful and fulfiling life he had with so many honors and people who love him. For all the lives he touched, my heart is saddened for your loss.

I had the privilege of meeting then Capt. McCaffrey at Ft. Knox, KY in l951 by attending an Armor Oficer Candidate Class. He was Company Commander and he and his staff trained us for 6 months. He was highly respected by all of us training to become 2d Lieutenants. We had a 10 day break for Christmas. He knew I was also from Texas and at our usual Saturday morning inspection I was at rigid attention and he looked at me and said "Kennedy, did you go home to Texas for Christmas?" I replied...

Harry is a member of one of the finest families I have been acquainted with. I, too, was one of those Harry stopped and said "hello" to while I was walking, and of course was a fellow church member. I will miss him. May God give strength to all his family.

My heartfelt sympathies to Harry's family.....I soon learned who Harry was after moving into the neighborhood only three years ago. Harry became part of my day..When out for my morning run, Harry would drive by and stop for a moment to say "what a good day for a run", or that I was "a good runner", or to prepare me with the weather forcast for that day. He always lifted me up...like an affrimation that "life is good!" I am truly saddened that I will not see Harry again driving by as I run....

Harley,
We will keep you in our prayers in your time of sorrow. Know that we are here for you at work if you need us. Love always, your Verizon family.

Dear Mark, please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Memories of your Daddy and Papa will keep him close in your hearts forever.

Susan and I enjoyed Harry's always bright hellos and reports on the temperature. There was always time to tell us how beautiful our dog was or how great the yard looked. He was reticent about being the hero from the war. We gave him a cigar for Memorial day, and he picked up our newspapers for the school. Man with a heart of gold. We'll miss him.

I will miss Harry stopping his car to say
hello, and comment on how cute my dogs were, etc. while walking in the neighborhood.
He was such a big part of this lovely neighborhood we have here, and his absence
will be sadly felt for a very long time.
