Chambers Funeral Homes - North Olmsted Obituary

HARRY W. BARKLEY, JR., age 89, beloved husband of Juliet (nee Phillips), loving father of Anne Fitzgerald (Tim), Bill (Sharon), Mary Basch (Jeff), Laura Warrington (Marc), and Michael (Amy); proud grandfather of Patrick, Maggie, Gennie, Gabe, Aaron, Amber, Samantha, Katie, Abigail, Charlie, Sarah, Kevin, Caroline, and Emily; great-grandfather of Colette, Liam, Leo, Nora, Ella, and Avery; brother of the late Jerri Borza and Peggy Burkhart; uncle, great-uncle, and friend of many.  Passed away July 26, 2024.  Funeral Mass Tuesday, July 30, St. Christopher Church (20141 Detroit Rd., Rocky River) at 11 A.M. where friends may call in the Gathering Space 10 A.M. UNTIL TIME OF MASS.  Interment Lakewood Park Cemetery.

Harry had 3 important things in his life… family, friends and faith.  He made lifelong friends at St. Angela’s Elementary School, St. Ignatius High School, Notre Dame University and St. Christopher’s Parish.  He met his beautiful bride, Julie, when she was attending Rosary College. They were married after college and started their family of 5 children. Their family grew as they were married and grandchildren and great grandchildren were born.  Harry volunteered with St. Vincent De Paul Society, Malachi House and Meals on Wheels. He loved playing tennis, being with his old friends while making new ones, and traveling the country to spend time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Under his senior picture in the St. Ignatius yearbook, it said, “We were just wild about Harry!.”  Truer words were never spoken.

Not sure what to say?

If this is the Mr. Barkley who was the physical-education teacher at Rocky River’s Kensington Elementary School in the 1960’s, he was the BEST! He really cared about the students and our physical fitness. He encouraged us to always try hard and do our best. He was someone we all adored and looked up to. A great person who gave us self-esteem. I will never forget him.

Dear Barkley Family,

We are so sorry for your loss. Harry was kind, gentle, and loving
To all that he met.

He is in Heaven and with God, and all the other angels and saints, as they make a welcoming place for a treasure of a Father, Husband, Friend, Grandfather and man.

May God keep you all in his arms and comfort you during this
Time of sorrow.

Accept our heartfelt condolences and May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace, Amen!
