Harvey Earl Copeland

Obituary

It is with great sadness we say goodbye to Harvey Earl Copeland, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and loyal friend and brother.

Harvey passed away peacefully on May 1, 2011 at the Victoria Hospice after a long battle with cancer. Harvey is survived by his loving wife Jean of 57 years, 3 sons, Bob (Barb), Ken (Leslie), Mark (Brenda), and 3 daughters Laura, Cheryle (Tony), Sandra (Rick), 7 grandchildren, Rae, Wendee, Brian, Aaron, Cassie, Savannah and Lucas and 5 great grandchildren. 3 brothers, Allan, Wayne, and Dale and 2 sisters, Doreen and Yvonne along with many nieces and nephews. Harvey was born on August 27, 1933 in Emerson, Manitoba. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a young man of 17 and retired as a Master Warrant Officer Para Rescue/Sar Tech. He served his country proudly, and loved and cared for his family to the highest degree. His greatest passion was helping people around him. He was an active member of the Comox Legion, 888 Komox Wing and the Comox United Church. He enjoyed life to the fullest with a wonderful sense of humour and encouraged others to do the same. Harvey loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, chopping wood, you name it, he did it. We will always remember the twinkle in his eye that inspired us all. Good bye Harvey, we all will love and miss you forever. A celebration of Harvey's life, followed by a poppy service and reception will be held on May 11, 2011 at 1:00 pm at the 888 Komox Wing located on Military Row, Comox. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.

Condolences to Jean and family on the passing of a truely wonderful person. Harv's smiling face and that twinkle in his eye will always be remembered by us.

I will always remember Harv as my STL in Comox. He was a good boss and a leader of morale. He never barked because he never had to, his jovial, calm manner was enough to motivate anyone. He was always smiling! Harv was very proud of his family and it was a pleasure to know them. As I got to meet Jean I thought to myself…gee, everyone in this family smiles. Farewell Harv, you had many good friends that will miss you. My heartfelt condolences to Jean and family.
