Not sure what to say?

I was one of Harvey's students at Queens College in the 1970s, and we'd stayed in touch for a long time afterward, till around 2014 or so. I hadn't heard of his passing till this moment. He will be missed.

Professor Fried had a dual influence on me as a writer, but more importantly as a socialized person. Professor Fried had the ability to relate to students like he was just an older version of them, which gave him insight. When I was in his class I had two deficits. My ineffective writing was the least of them, because I stayed in the back of the room, as silent as Clarence would be during most Supreme Court questioning. I was a student at Queens College from 1868 to 1972. I saw him frequently in the English department. He was a lively, charming man. May light perpetual shine in him and his family.

I met Harvey back in the 1980's during a summer in the Hamptons. We became friends and kept in touch ever since. Harvey survived cancer and relished his life in New York City. I will miss his friendship.

I was a student in Professor Fried´s class at Queens College...he was a wonderful educator. Knowledgeable, humorous, caring... So sad he is gone.

I just found this notice when I went to reach out to Harvey on the one year anniversary of his good friend Mary´s death. I so enjoyed our conversations during the month´s Mary was with us in Ohio. They let me listen in to their discussions of books, music and movies. My condolences to his nephews and their families.

To the Family of Professor Harvey Fried: On behalf of the Administration, Faculty and Staff of Queens College, our deepest condolences to the whole family. May he Rest in Peace,
