Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home - Brainerd Obituary

Harvey Leo Hendricks of Brainerd, MN passed away on January 31, 2012. He was born on June 24, 1933 to Francis & Emma (Thiede) Hendricks.

Harvey joined the US Air Force in 1951, serving four years. He is a Veteran of the Korean War. Upon leaving the military, Harvey was employed with Northwest Airlines (formerly North Central Airlines) as a mechanic. He maintained his employment with Northwest and retired after approximately 36 years of service.

Even though Harvey worked hard, he never forgot his family and friends. Harvey will be deeply missed by his two sons; Tim (Vicki) of Acworth, GA and Ken of Columbus, GA, five grandchildren; Ryan, Chase, Alex, Randi, and Taylor, five siblings; Florence (John) Nelson, Bernard, Martha Killian, Arthur (Margaret), and Donald (Darlene); one sister-in-law; Carol Hendricks; and his special companion; Marge Weston.

When Harvey wasn't spending time with the family or working, he had a real art for woodworking and crafting. He made some very special pieces that we will always cherish. Harvey also enjoyed playing cards and country dancing with his friends. He could be seen weekly at any of the local dance halls.

Harvey enjoyed hunting, camping and especially the annual Hendricks Reunions. Harvey was a well-rounded person, from having a private pilot license to being a certified scuba diver. He was a great handyman to have around, able to fix anything from electrical to plumbing. Harvey taught Tim & Ken a great deal while growing up.

Harvey will be truly missed by all.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00am, Friday, February 3, 2012 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Brainerd. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00-7:00pm at Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home, in Brainerd, and one hour prior to the mass Friday at the church. Interment will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, near Little Falls, MN.
