Not sure what to say?

I always knew when Hayward was going to be on a recording session because we had to tear down the drum cage and reset the booth since he was the only "Left-handed drummer" in town. I've been out of touch with Nashville and the music business for many years but was sad to learn of his passing. He was such a kind and gentle person, very positive and always a joy to be around. I am sorry so for the family's loss and know you miss him. He was a great human being.

I was in Hayward's first band, the "Half Beats" in Norfolk, VA. Named because Hayward had H B written on his bass drum.

Another angel has gone home. We spent many hrs. on different occasions talking about @ learning the bible, Hayward would be at his happiest place. Amy I learned of Hayward passing from the CMA'S @ I am so sorry. I have video of Hayward at the Ray Peterson benefit concert that I would love to share.

Our sincere condolences. May you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends and by the words found at Thessalonians 4:14.

I just saw where Hayward had passed away this year on the CMA tribute tonight. It definitely brought tears to my eyes. He was such an awesome person, friend and musician. He played on my sessions at Music Mill when I was a young artist in Nashville. He was kind, caring and funny and always willing to help others...including my parents. Even though a lot of time has passed, I just wanted to share my thoughts. Thanks and God bless!!!

Hayward was the first person I met when I moved to Nashville in 1978. He was awesome had a great sense of humor, loved the Lord and was just fun to be around. i dj'ed in the Disco techs he played drummer in the bands and the clubs. We spent many a morning watching the sun come up at Sambos and Jerrys off of Harding place. We got to work together at Sal's Place off of Haywood lane when he played with Steve Jarrel and Sons of the Beach. When i first met him he drove an old panel wagon with...

HAYWARD ...I WILL MISS YOU VERY MUCH ! I moved to Nashville back in '85 & just happened to stop in The Nashville Palace. I asked to set-in with the house band & that night Hayward was the sub drummer for the evening. We got to be friends during our chat & I learned about the drumming audition with Brenda Lee. Without him kindly sharing that info, I would not have gotten the chance to audition but have the job for a wonderful 8 years. We lost touch for about a decade but ended up being Old...

Hayward, and I go back a very long way to NHS. He was a loyal friend to both Mike Horner and myself, and always full of fun. Rest in Peace, Hayward, your legacy of music, kindness and love of country will live on.

Blessings to your family, Donna (Rutina) Mellis
