Hazel Arthur Sr.

Hazel Arthur, Sr. was born February 7, 1922 in Lydia, South Carolina, the son of the late Henry and Elemar Price Arthur. He was educated in the public schools of Darlington County, South Carolina. He married the love of his life, Lueanna McFadden Arthur, on August 1, 1942 and this union was blessed with eight children. "Sam," as he was affectionately known by many, was a God-fearing man. He loved the Lord and his church family. He attended St. John United Methodist Church. He served in many capacities. He helped with church maintenance and he was the cemetery sexton. "Sam" enjoyed going with the Pastor to visit the sick and shut in. He was a true servant of God. "Sam" also served in the United States Army during WWII. He served his country Honorably until his discharge in August of 1945. "Sam" went on to work for Sonoco Products Company of Hartsville, South Carolina as a Maintenance Man for 32 years. He also worked in his community as a Voter Poll Worker. "Sam" was a good husband, father, and grandfather. He loved playing baseball, where he was the Pitcher. He also loved fishing. Those who knew him will love and miss him dearly. Surviving to cherish the memory and maintain the legacy of Hazel "Sam" Arthur, Sr. are his loving wife, Lueanna Arthur of Hartsville, SC; his seven sons, Luke (Janie Mae) Arthur, Clinton (Loretta) Arthur, and Darrell (Rosa) Bell of Hartsville, SC, Hazel (Viola) Arthur, Charles Edward Arthur, Richard (Lillian) Arthur, and Kirk Arthur of Lydia, SC; a daughter, Elizabeth Arthur Durant of Hartsville, SC; 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and very dear friends.
