She was my FAVORITE teacher! We wrote letters back and forth for many years after she retired. I remember feeling so loved by her. She always made you feel important and very special. I was very touched when she came all the way back to Sellersburg for my graduation. I also got to "play" her in a school play which was great. I think about her a lot and will miss her dearly.

We were looking for Verna Mae Slone, at
the time,not knowing theres 2 Caney,Ky.
We were directed to Hazel's Place for information. She invited us in and we set,I told her about Verna's book,"What
My Heart wants to tell" and how I hoped
she's sister of my gr.Grandpa; Frank Morrell Slone.Said she'd like to read the book herself but I was at the wrong
Caney. Then told us, her life dream and
showed us around "Memory Hill".She even

I always looked forward to her articles in the "Kentucky Explorer" and regret we will no longer be able to read them. What a gracious and loving lady--so few of them are left now. Hazel, thanks for the education and memories.

Like everyone who knew her, I was deeply saddened to learn of Hazel's passing. Hazel was certainly a ball of energy. Even after Wardie's passing she pushed ahead with Memory Hill. When in Jackson, she often stopped for a chat at our office, and she knew so much local history. Hazel often shared her stories and photos with our magazine, the Kentucky Explorer. Also, she left many of her writings and memories behind in a book she published several years ago. Most everyone knows the story of how...
