HUNTER, Hazel (Lillard) - Age 90, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2009. Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Elders Barbara and Dean Robinson officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Hazel Dunlap was born 6th of 9 children of Oral and Eugenie Dunlap on June 24, 1918 in Flint, Michigan. Hazel was an outstanding athlete at Flint Central High School, class of 1936. She married Walter "Bud" Lillard in 1939. Hazel was active in the YWCA swimming program during the 40s and 50s. She taught swimming to handicapped children for the American Red Cross for many years and taught adult swim classes at Central High. Hazel also did outstanding heirloom quality needlework. Bud and Hazel helped establish G.L.C. Bowling Supplies in 1959, "retiring" in 1979. After Bud's death in 1982, Hazel continued helping a new family business as bookkeeper. At age 81 she married Clarence M. Hunter, a childhood friend of Bud. After 7 happy months together, Clarence passed away. Hazel was an exceptional mother and grandmother. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Harvey Pearl; stepson Michael Hunter and wife Peggy; granddaughter, Lynn O'Connor (Tim); and grandson, Michael Pearl; great-grandchildren, Ryan O'Connor, Alexander and Natalie Pearl; sister Maxine Mungall; brother, Dale (Gerda) Dunlap; many nieces and nephews and many dear friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Bristolwood Community of Christ, Brian's House Hospice or Shiawassee County Humane Society, or charity of choice.
