Always Room for Dessert
There can be no doubt that Heather Ho, the award-winning pastry chef at the Windows on the World Restaurant on the 107th floor of the World Trade Center, had a sweet tooth. "We would go to a restaurant and she would order only the desserts," said Daniel Roorda, her boyfriend for the last two years. "But she was petite. She ate more than I did, and never gained a pound. I don't know how she did it. I think it's that her energy level was so high." High enough to have propelled Ms. Ho, 32, from Honolulu, her hometown, to premier New York restaurants that included Jean Georges, Gramercy Tavern and Clementine, and Boulevard in San Francisco. She came to Windows in June, but her dream was to open her own pastry shop, said Michael Lomonaco, the restaurant's executive chef. "In mid-August she gave me notice, but offered to stay until we could find a replacement."

To a "Sweet Life" Miss you my friend

Reading a story in The Atlantic about a young man who was at a meeting at the Windows of the World on 9/11 and it made me think of you who were there at the same time he was. I had so many eighth grade students - you are one who is engraved in my memory because of your Light - your smile - your joyful way of being. This was unique to many eighth graders who are often in their most angsty time of their lives. You were one of the solid, happy ones. I remember you in this way and it makes me...

Heather - I can finally think of you without tears. You always had a wonderful appetite for life, love, and dessert. But above all, you were a lovely friend.

Heather - thank you for the wonderful memories in SF. Your joy for dessert always brought a smile on my face and your appetite for life never ceased to amaze me! I'm proud to have called you my friend.

Dearest Heather,
September 11, 2021. Time does not diminish love.
You are always and forever in our hearts.
