Broomhead Funeral Home - Riverton Obituary

Heather Ethlene Mangum Stewart died June 4, 2025, at her home in Bluffdale, Utah, after her valiant effort to heal from pancreatic cancer.  She was born March 24, 1975, in Houston, Texas to James Irvin Mangum, Jr and Olivia Croft Mangum. Heather grew up with her nine siblings in Pleasant Grove, Utah and has been described as the “glue” in keeping the family together.

She graduated from Pleasant Grove High School, where she participated in cheerleading, band, and seminary council. She grew up in Girl Scouts as “Harley” and continued as a camp counselor and troop leader through much of her adult life with her daughters. She served as Miss Pleasant Grove and loved camping, hiking, horses and being outdoors. After high school, Heather attended Brigham Young University and completed a bachelor's degree in Family Science and Human Development. She then earned a master's degree in Family Financial Planning from Texas Tech University, completing internships in West Palm Beach, Florida and New Zealand.

After a serendipitous meeting at the Salt Lake City Airport and a summer courtship, she was sealed for eternity to Justin John Stewart on Jan 29, 1999, in the Mount Timpanogos Temple in American Fork, Utah. Heather and Justin first lived in Novato, California where Heather landed her first job as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) after receiving her master's degree and CFP designation.  They also loved living in Lehi, Utah and Eldersburg, Maryland. Finally, they settled in Bluffdale, Utah where they raised their five children.

In addition to working as a family financial planner, Heather was a gifted and beloved group fitness instructor. Her many students loved her positive energy, infectious enthusiasm, and radiant light. She cherished her relationships with her fellow teachers and students and invested many hours in this passion. Her greatest joy was in being a wife and a mother to her five children. She faithfully supported her daughters in their passion for dance and her sons in swimming, volleyball, soccer, and many other diverse interests.

Heather was a woman with exceedingly strong faith in Jesus Christ. She loved attending the temple and faithfully served in many capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her goal of attending the temple 50 times in her 50th year will have to be completed by her posterity. Her faith in the Lord sustained her through her cancer journey. She remained kind and full of love and radiated positivity to the end.

Heather is survived by her husband, Justin, and children: Savannah Grace Assenheimer (Ben), Rachel Ethlene, Reed Maxwell (serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Syracuse, New York), Grant James, and Ren Joseph.  She is also survived by her mother, Olivia Mangum, and nine siblings: Kellie Pedersen (Mark); Olivia Rachel Weber (Peter); James I Mangum, III (Judy); Kenn Mangum (Natalie); Esther Swensen (Jared); Elizabeth Mangum; Christina Mangum (Jaclyn); Summer Corbit (Ryan); and Thomas Mangum.

Viewings will be held June 9, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 PM and June 10, 2025, from 10:00-10:45 AM. Funeral service will be June 10, 2025, at 11:00 AM. All services are located at 15429 Iron Horse Blvd, Bluffdale, UT 84065. The funeral service will be broadcast as a webinar at https://zoom.us/j/93090879620 . Not sure what to say?

Heather always welcomed me joyously to her classes even though I’m in a wheelchair. I started in her aqua Zumba class then added her strength class because she always made me feel so capable and strong! Her energy and talent were so uplifting and made all of her classes so much fun! I miss her so much! I’ll be forever grateful for her kindness and friendship. It has been such a great blessing in my life to know her!

Heather was always so sweet and kind. She really cared about others and showed compassion and tried to uplift everyone around her. She was a grade above me in school and her brother Kenn and I are really close friends. My twin brother and I spent many hours with the Mangum family and we love them and we hope pray for strength and comfort for them at this difficult time. Heather was also friends with my older brother Peter and Peter and James also knew each other well. The Donaldson family...

Heather always listened and was interesting my welfare and health in class! Through much convincing we kept her teaching a Fri. 5:30 am Zumba class much longer than we all expected, 10 yrs! It was a glorious time to dance and celebrate our friendship. We loved it and didn’t missHeathers energy and light shines on! Love you and miss you already!!

I love and miss you, my angel sister! I will not forget the joy and happiness you brought to my life. With love, always

Justin and Family,
I will always cherish our memories in Maryland and when we visited you all in Salt Lake! Many prayers to you all!
God Rest you Heather!

Love,
The Streissguth’s

I consider Heather one of my best friends from the North Star community. I think I met her when Savannah and Emily were in second grade. Those two girls became good friends and so did Heather and I. We especially bonded through our joy of reading/listening to good books. She and I enjoyed similar styles of writing. Anytime she recommended a book I knew I was going to love it.
When I went back to school, Heather was extremely supportive. She was friends with one of my professors through...

Heather is the one person that you meet that you will never forget. I went to her Friday water aerobics class for over 13 years. I so looked forward to her sweet smile and her stories about her beautiful family that she loved sharing. She was so proud of all their accomplishments in their lives and the love she had for them and her husband. Thoughts and prayers are with them at the loss of this beautiful woman. She will be missed.

The first words Heather ever said to me were”Hi, I’m Harley and I love friendship bracelets!” Then she flashed me her 1000 watt smile that went right up to her eyes. The year was 1996 and it was at Trefoil Ranch. To this laid back Aussie she projected supercharged energy. I was to discover over the next 10 weeks and later over two more continents that it was her constant state of being. When I think of Harley her constant joy stands out most. She will be missed. My love and prayers are with...
