Hector G. (Choco) Ayala went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the age of 72.

Hector joined the San Antonio Police Department in 1963 and retired in 2001 after serving 37 years. He was active in several Police organizations. He was one of the first hostage negotiators for the department and as an FTO, trained many officers of the academy.

He loved fishing, boating and bowling. Hector touched so many lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents Pedro and Josephine Ayala; sisters: Mary Jane Garza, Minerva Marconi; brother, Pedro Ayala Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Terry Lynn Ayala; sons: Hector Ayala Jr., Richard Rene Ayala (Sonia); grandchildren: Adrain, Lauren and Brandon; godchildren: Taniya and Joshua; brothers: Arnulfo (Dixie), Phillip (Ana); sisters: Estela Ayala and Elsie McGuire; numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Pickles.

Visitation will begin Sunday at 4:00 P.M. with a Rosary to be recited at 5:00 P.M. Funeral procession will depart The Angelus Chapel Monday at 10:15 A.M. for graveside services at Holy Cross Cemetery at 11:00 A.M.

The family would like to thank Davita Dialysis Clinic and the technicians that took care of him, also a special thank you to his doctors: Dr. Juarez, Dr. Fried and Dr. Font.

As a City Councilman, I was proud to have known Hector in the early 90's. He was an outstanding police officer and father. He represented the best of our generation. He was a calming influence in our society.
