Hector Luis Ortiz, age 60 of Lake Station passed away Sunday, November 28, 2021. He was born on February 28, 1961 in Humacao, Puerto Rico to Rubén Ortiz-Morales and Hilda Muñoz Vázquez. He was currently employed as an operator at Cleveland Cliffs. He will always be remembered for his strong work ethic. He was the most knowledgeable and compassionate person in the room. In his free-time, he liked to watch anything about History, Geography, planes and turbines.  He enjoyed watching UFC every Saturday with his family. Above all, he loved his family and cherished the time he spent with his grandkids.


He is survived by his father, Rubén Ortiz Morales; sons, Shane Nalley, Nathan (Trisha) Nalley; daughter, Saundra Nalley-Ortiz; grandkids, Diamond, Nathan, Jr., Noah, Kayla, Nythen and Michael; brothers, Elis Manuel Ortiz, Carlos Rubén Ortiz, Reinaldo Ortiz, Abner Ortiz; sisters, Nélida Ortiz, Amilda Ortiz, Edna Margarita Ortiz, Yolanda Ortiz, Lisandra Ortiz, Brenda Ortiz; many other loving family members and friends.


He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Nalley-Ortiz; his mother, Hilda Muñoz-Vázquez; two brothers, Rubén Ortiz, Jr. and Hector Rubén Ortiz. Memorial contributions in Hector’s name may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, Inc., 26345 Network Place Chicago, IL 60673-1263.


Visitation will be held Sunday, December 5, 2021 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel, 3781 Central Ave., Lake Station. A funeral service will be held Monday, December 6, 2021 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Park in Hobart.
