Helen L. Ayers, 80, of Evansville, died Saturday, May 5, 2007.
She graduated from Wheeler Grade School, Central High School, Evansville College, and received her master's degree from Indiana University. She was a counselor and classroom teacher at North High School for 37 years.

Helen was a very special lady! She loved encouraging & complimenting others. She also had a wonderful humorous side to her! I really enjoyed being in her company. It was always so nice to hear how very much she truely loved and cared about her students!

Steve: You have my sympathies at the loss of your mother. She impacted the lives of many students at North High School. While I did not have her in class, you may remember the "Senior Trip" of 1963 to Washington and New York when you accompanied your mother and Mr. Blythe with our group of seniors. I recall the class picture had you on both ends of the line of students as you ran from one end to the other while the photographer was sweeping across the group.

Mrs. Ayers was my counselor at North during my junior and senior years. She was a very dedicated lady and she always wanted what was best for her students. She helped me a lot with all of the college applications and letters of recommendation. She always encouraged me to do my best.

Altho our paths took different directions I remember Helen fondly when she worked at City Hall at 3rd & Walnut. We shared lots of fun. You have my sympathy.

I remember Mrs. Ayers from working in the Mesker Summer Musicals in '68. She kept us in line, but had a great time with us also. She worked very hard "behind the scenes," and was very kind to me personally, which I've never forgotten. I will always remember her warmly.
